Hartford Athletic has signed defender Modou Jadama (Marietta, GA), pending league and federation approval.
“In Mo, we have one of the best central defenders in the entire USL. He has been one of our top targets this off-season and I am delighted to have him as part of our team,” said Head Coach Harry Watling. “Mo shows excellent technical ability, leadership and bravery when he steps on the pitch. He will raise the standard of defending at the club.”
Jadama has played the past five seasons in the top level of the USL. Last season, as a member of FC Tulsa, he played in twenty-five matches leading the team in clearances (82) and blocks (23) and was fifth in interceptions (35). Jadama was also a key member of the 2017 Tulsa Roughnecks FC squad that made the USL Playoffs.
After his first stint in Tulsa, Jadama played two seasons for Portland Timbers where he played for both the MLS and USL sides. He made his MLS debut on June 10, 2018 and helped the Timbers keep a clean sheet against Sporting Kansas City. In 2020, Jadama played in his hometown of Atlanta, signing with Atlanta United 2 in the USL Championship. He was appointed captain and played every minute of all 16 regular season matches for ATL UTD 2.
"Hartford Athletic feels like an excellent fit for me. I’m very excited to be part of this club,” Jadama said. “Coach Watling showed a strong interest in me from the beginning and with the plan he has for me and my teammates, I know we're going to have a very special season. I can’t wait to get started.”
Born in Serrekunda, The Gambia, Jadama moved to the U.S. at an early age and became a U.S. citizen as a teenager. He started his professional soccer career in Chile with Club Social y Deportivo Colo-Colo (Colo-Colo for short), one of the most famous clubs in South America. He made his professional debut for Colo-Colo in the Santo Tomás Cup in 2015. Prior to joining Tulsa, Jadama was loaned to Coquimbo Unido for the 2016 season in Chile’s second division, where he made three appearances.
Hartford Athletic has now signed the following players for the 2022 season:
