Hartford Athletic is excited to welcome Donovan Powell to the family as the new Chief Operating Officer for the Club.
Powell comes to Hartford Athletic by way of Drexel University and Learfield Sports – where he served as general manager of sports properties – and Detroit City FC – where as general manager he led business operations and was the first full-time employee of the Club. Under his leadership, Detroit City FC became one of the most exciting soccer clubs in the U.S. at any level and a financial and cultural success in the Detroit region. Under Powell, the Club’s average attendance increased 200%+ to more than 6,000 fans per game in 2017 and garnered national media attention due to the passionate support of their fans.
“I’m excited to be joining Hartford Athletic as we build the Club from the ground up,” Powell said. “There is so much potential in the Hartford market, and I see a lot of similarities to the success we saw in Detroit. It’s our goal to provide a world class professional soccer experience and to bring the community together through the beautiful game.”
“We are so pleased to welcome Donovan to help lead our front office,” said Bruce Mandell, Chairman & CEO of Hartford Athletic. “We are building a team that is dedicated to winning on and off the field, and Donovan’s arrival continues the momentum for our organization as we head toward our first season.”
As Chief Operating Officer, Powell will oversee all business operations for the Club and report to Mandell. Powell received an M.S. from Drexel University and a B.A. from Bowling Green State University. Powell served in the United States Marines on active duty from 2002 – 2006. During service time, he led a command as Platoon Sergeant and deployed to Fallujah in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
